You’ll be sitting on the deck of your private yacht or perhaps cooling down in an on-deck pool, watching sea eagles swooping down to snatch bait in the water, or playful dolphins frolicking in the waves, or cormorants volplaning gracefully across the sky.
The Great Barrier Reef is the perfect destination for billfishing, particularly well known for its black marlin. It’s the only known ground where black marlin breed, as well as mackerel, sailfish, cod, barramundi, red Fijian snapper and a lot more! Night fishing expeditions – as well as night dives – are a chance to see the fabulous seascape in a totally different light.
The largest known fish, the whale shark, has been spotted near Sudbury reef and on the way between Opal Reef and St Crispins Reef, swimming alone and in a group. These mysterious migratory creatures feed on krill and small nektonic life; they are safe for divers and sometimes even allow swimmers to catch a ride!
In addition to yachting, diving and fishing, there is Ngaro Sea Trail Great Walk, a combination of scenic walking trails (from 170 m to 11 km) and sea passages encompassing South Molle, Hook and a few of the Whitsunday Islands. Taking in the white sand beaches, whimsical calcified cliff tops and the turquoise Coral Sea from the highest point of an island is an experience a true adventurer is sure to relish
