Capo Testa is in the north of Sardinia, you can see Corsica across the Strait of Bonifacio. Imposing rocks carved into
interesting shapes by strong winds, lunar landscapes, wild coves and spellbinding beauty – this is what Capo Testa is all about.
Incredible windsculpted rocks attract thousands of tourists here. In pre-historic times some of those granite formations, tafoni, with rounded entrances and concave walls, where locals set up homes. Later, in Roman times, Capo Testa granite was mined and shipped to metropole, where it was reportedly used to build the Pantheon.
In the very south of Corsica there is a fabulous isolated peninsula, with the steep coasts of strikingly white limestone. And this is exactly where Bonifacio, the most photogenic of Corsican cities, is situated. Strolling along Bonifacio waterfront promenade and looking south, you will see Sardinia from across the strait, which is called, appropriately, the strait of Bonifacio.
Bonifacio’s must-see attraction is the Citadel, perched on the rocky outcrop overlooking the port, and the steep Escalier du Roi d'Aragon, or the King Aragon Steps, leading from the citadel to the waterfront.
Lavezzi archipelago will enchant you with the mesmerizing beauty of its rugged cliffs, offer you blissful swims in the beautiful setting, provide you with a lot of snorkelling opportunities and charming grottoes to explore. This collection of granite islets and reefs found in the Strait of Bonifacio had been a set of a 1952 film starring 17-year old Brigitte Bardot, where she appeared – for the first time on screen – in a revealing bikini. Magnificent cliffs, shimmering sapphire sea and Mediterranean sunshine made a perfect background for that film – or any natureloving, outdoor-fun type of adventure. Lavezzi is particularly good for kitesurfing and paddle-boarding.
La Maddalena archipelago is an island group off the north-eastern coast of Sardinia.
This is a natural masterpiece, with several islands of various sizes scattered in the cerulean sea. In 1994 the archipelago became a National Park in order to preserve local flora and fauna. La Maddalena is the largest island of the archipelago.
It is reminiscent of Elba: beautiful waterfront with numerous shops and cafes, typically Italian streets, palm and lemon trees – and it is hard to believe that not so long ago this island was home to a large military base.
Porto Cervo is located in the centre of fabulous Costa Smeralda in the north of Sardinia.
Unlike almost all other Mediterranean seaside destinations, this is not a fishing village/medieval citadel turned into a popular resort. Porto Cervo was originally designed by Luigi Vietti in the 1960s by order of Aga Khan IV. It is a playground for the super-rich arriving here on their luxury yachts.
Best marine facilities on the island, one of the best Italian golf clubs, prestigious regattas, vintage car rallies, the Billionaire Club, beach bars, posh night clubs, a Gaudi-esque 1960s church with El Greco painting keep bringing over Gucci-clad high-flyers on their super and mega yachts.
